Sophie Clews
Sophie Clews is a Brisbane-based artist currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Queensland College of Art. Her practice explores the body as a site of memory, perception, and quiet transformation. Working primarily in oil, Clews draws from photographic reference and direct observation to create intimate, atmospheric compositions that hover between presence and dissolution. Her work often features the figure submerged, veiled, or partially obscured, thus suggesting a fluid and shifting sense of identity.

Clews has exhibited widely across Brisbane and nationally, with a recent solo exhibition Veiled Resonances at The Station (2026). Her highlighted group exhibitions include FORM by Studio Maverik at Side Gallery (2026), Undergrowth at Grey Street Gallery (2025) and Splash by the Royal Queensland Art Society at Petrie Terrace Gallery (2026). Clews has also shown at an interstate group show Fifty Squared Art Prize at Brunswick Street Gallery (2025). In 2025, she was Highly Commended in the Homiens Art Prize.
